Data & Analytics Developer

Location: Lawrence, KS

JOB SUMMARY

The Data & Analytics Developer is responsible for building and optimizing the data pipelines, processes, and platforms that power credit union analytics, reporting, and business intelligence initiatives. This position is responsible for the maintenance of the credit union’s enterprise Data Warehouse, ETL/ELT processes, and Business Intelligence (BI) systems. The position works to combine data from disparate sources, gather business requirements, and apply business logic to produce secure, consistent and meaningful systems to drive corporate initiatives and goals. Position will work with Data Analyst to deliver an analytical self-service environment to credit union end users. Further, this role will continuously implement and maintain systems documentation, data governance and data security best practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
May include any and/or all of the following:

  1. Develop and maintain data warehouse, data models, and administer associated BI and analytics platforms
  2. Design and automate ingestion of data from diverse sources (internal databases, APIs, third-party services, cloud platforms)
  3. Develop and implement ETL/ELT processes, reports and queries in support of business analytics
  4. Implement policies and processes for data quality, stewardship, cataloging, and lineage
  5. Use statistical methods to analyze data and generate useful business reports
  6. Work with analyst(s) and credit union leadership to establish reporting and analytic requirements
  7. Create audit and governance policies to ensure consistency and accuracy of data
  8. Create technical policies, procedures, and documentation for what is developed including data flow diagrams and reporting library
  9. Explore and implement as available new BI practices and tools, including but not limited to AI, Machine Learning, GeoAnalytics and more
  10. Analyze BI infrastructure, processes and technical issues to identify and implement new technologies and procedures that increase performance, uptime, and scalability to BI systems
  11. Work with vendors to support further enhancements of BI platforms
  12. Provide technical support and end user support on BI systems to the credit union
  13. Resolve complex incidents, monitor solutions, and establish standards, procedures and guidelines; support and maintain existing reports and BI solutions
  14. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS

  • Knowledge of:
      • Modern office equipment, 10-key and procedures
      • Financial Industry and Credit Union products and services
      • Enterprise data management practices, including lineage, quality, and metadata
      • Relational and non-relational databases, data lakes, and lakehouse architectures
      • Modern ETL/ELT tools and practices
      • BI and analytics tools (e.g., Qlik, Power BI)
      • Cloud data services (Azure, AWS, or GCP preferred)
  • Ability to:
      • Solve highly complex problems related to data and reporting through the use of tools, automation and BI best practices.
      • Ability to translate statistical findings into business context
      • Work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
      • Communicate technical insights clearly to non-technical audiences
      • Prioritize multiple initiatives and adapt to changing business needs
      • Maintain data privacy, confidentiality, and ethical data handling
      • Self-direct with the initiative and drive necessary to activate a project from conception through completion
      • Carry out Credit Union mission, philosophies, values and practices
      • Solve practical problems and deal with variables in situations
      • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Skill in:
      • SQL and data modeling
      • Scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell)
      • Data visualization and storytelling
      • Paying close attention to detail
      • Making effective and timely decisions

QUALIFICATIONS

Critical Development Experiences:

  • Pursue opportunities for professional growth and development through training, education and self-study
  • Successfully complete all applicable compliance training and testing

Education and experience equivalent to:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years in data engineering, data analytics, or BI development role

REQUIREMENTS

Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for a significant period of time and perform functions that require manual dexterity. The employee must occasionally reach above or below normal body position, stoop or bend, and carry, lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. A normal range of hearing, vision, and speech are required to effectively work with co-employees and members.

Follows regulatory and policy compliance requirements, which include those efforts in compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, Identity Theft Red Flags and other compliance related Policies. This position also requires maintaining confidentiality with regard to non-public information about our members and the Credit Union.
