DE Mortgage Underwriter

JOB SUMMARY

This position must exercise sound judgment based on a detailed analysis of all mortgage loan files, and ensure that all documentation follows investor guidelines and that all loans have been processed according to government regulations. This position will work with members of the Mortgage Operations team and the Mortgage Sales and Development team to ensure quality lending decisions are being made. This role is also assigned to additional monthly reviews and reconciliations of various audits and Quality Control duties.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


May include any and/or all of the following:

  1. Work in alignment with leadership to establish and maintain relationships with GSEs, along with establishing necessary relationships to expand product offerings available to members.
  2. Completes final reviews of files at various times during the loan processes to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies and GSE requirements.
  3. Review and Evaluate borrower profile including all income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary report, judgements, bankruptcy documents and appraisals, etc.
  4. Analyze and calculate income documentation such as personal and business income statements; ensure all necessary documentation is requested to support final loan decisions.
  5. Exercise good judgment, conduct reasonableness tests and issue quality decisions.
  6. Determine accuracy and completeness of files; ensure consistent and accurate processes are maintained in compliance with GSE and Regulatory Changes.
  7. As the department SME on Underwriting in alignment with all GSEs, investors and any other UW overlays, must maintain up to date on guidelines updates and changes and relay and train all staff on those changes.
  8. Mentor all other underwriting staff to become proficient and certified to all GSE Underwriter requirements.
  9. Maintain established service level standards of decisions within a 48-hour time frame.
  10. Assist Leadership in researching and making corrections, when necessary, during QC audits.
  11. Cross Train with members of the Mortgage Operations team, on other department functions, to ensure adequate staffing adjustments can be made during times of ebbs and flows within the department.
  12. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

      • Technology and various software programs including Mortgage Cadence, Symitar, Microsoft Office Products, Mortgage Servicer

QUALIFICATIONS

Critical Development Experiences:

Pursue opportunities for professional growth and development through training, education and self-study

Successfully complete all applicable compliance training and testing

Participate in webinars provided by Mortgage Cadence, Freddie Mac, and CMG

Education and experience equivalent to:

Requires a minimum of 5 years underwriting experience with at least 3 years as DE(FHA) and/or VA Underwriting with a valid DE(CHUMS) and/or a VA LAPP/DAR designation.

REQUIREMENTS

Regular attendance and timeliness are essential functions of this position. While performing this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for a significant period of time and perform functions that require manual dexterity. The employee must occasionally reach above or below normal body position, stoop or bend, and carry, lift or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds. A normal range of hearing, vision, and speech are required to effectively work with co-employees and members.

Follows regulatory and policy compliance requirements, which include those efforts in compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Office of Foreign Asset Control (OFAC) and Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Regulations, Identity Theft Red Flags and other compliance related Policies. This position also requires maintaining confidentiality with regard to non-public information about our members and the Credit Union.
